Head of Department: Mrs C Roche
We pride ourselves at Herne Bay high School in having an outstanding Health and Social Care department. Students can choose to study Health and Social Care from years 10 through to year 13. The courses we offer are aimed towards students who are interested in working in the Health, Social Care and Early Years sectors.
In Key Stage 4 we provide students with the opportunity to experience what it is like to look after a baby for the weekend with our realistic electronic babies.
Over the past few years, we have had many students go onto University to train to become Doctors, Midwives, Physiotherapists, Teachers and Nurses.
During our courses, we offer a variety of extra-curricular activities such as trips and visits. We actively encourage students to participate in work-related activity including work tasters, volunteering, or a work placement. This provides students with the opportunity to develop their career choices; experience the world of work and develop employability skills.
In Key Stage 4 students can opt to study the Cambridge National OCR Level 1/2 Certificate in Health and Social Care. This two-year course will prepare students for jobs in roles where they will be expected to communicate effectively with people and provide support within environments such as care settings for the elderly, children and disabled people of all ages.
