Head of Department - Mr C Smith
A Level Law is an exciting and thought-provoking subject that helps you understand how the legal system works and why it matters in everyday life. You’ll explore fascinating topics such as how laws are made, the role of judges and juries, murder, negligence, nuisance, misrepresentation, the rule of law and the principles of justice.
Studying Law develops highly transferable skills that are valued by universities and employers alike. You’ll learn to think critically, analyse complex issues, construct clear arguments, and make informed judgments alongside developing a sound knowledge based of the law. It’s an excellent foundation for careers in law, politics, business, criminology, or any field that requires sharp reasoning and effective communication.
Our Law course is currently on offer to our Key Stage 5 students. The course centres on 3 key areas of substantive law: Criminal law, Tort law and Contract law. Assessment comes in the form of three exams at the end of year 13 on each of these areas of law.
The course is delivered by highly experienced subject specialists and offers students the opportunity to visit the local Crown and Magistrate’s Courts as well as the Supreme Court and the Old Bailey. Students have also participated in mock trials at local universities and the national Bar Mock Trial competition. A significant number of students who study Law at A level go on to further study in law.
