As the academic year comes to a close Term 6 has seen students in the Humanities Faculty be afforded a wealth of opportunities to learn beyond the classroom.
In June Year 10 Religious Studies students visited the Marlowe Theatre to see the UK tour of the award-winning musical Jesus Christ Superstar. The show covered the last week of Jesus’ life, as seen through the eyes of Judas. The musical was amazing and was definitely an unforgettable experience for students and staff.
Year 8 Geography students have been studying the topic of sustainability this term and were challenged with identifying potential locations for solar panels. Students, working in small groups, undertook fieldwork around the school site to evaluate the pros and cons of a variety of locations. Some excellent studies were completed, and the experience gave students a real taste of what fieldwork involves.
The History Society had their final meeting of the year, where students and staff celebrated a great year exploring the past and delivering some really interesting talks that the members had been working on. Students were awarded History Society graduation diplomas for their participation in the society.
Finally, last week Year 12 History students and two Year 10 students visited the Tower of London. The students had a fantastic day seeing Tower Bridge, experiencing the many uses of the Tower of London, and even viewing the Crown Jewels up close! The trip was topped off by an excellent guided War of Roses tour with historian Dr Katrina Marchant, discovering some of the many secrets and myths in the history of the Tower.
