Your Core Responsibilities:

As Head of Maths, you will be responsible for the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the department, working closely with the HoF, including:

Curriculum & Teaching

  • Oversee the design, delivery, and review of the Maths curriculum from KS3 to KS5.
  • Lead on assessment planning, including creating assessment calendars and quality-assuring exam materials.
  • Ensure high-quality teaching and learning through lesson observations, learning walks, and regular feedback.
  • Monitor and drive improvements in marking, feedback, homework, and student outcomes across all key stages.

Staff Leadership & Development

  • Line manage and support a team of teachers, TLR holders, and support staff.
  • Lead regular department meetings, briefings, and performance reviews.
  • Identify and respond to training needs, delivering CPD and supporting the development of ECTs and ITTs.
  • Oversee staff deployment, timetabling, and cover.

Data & Student Progress

  • Monitor student progress and attainment across all year groups and subgroups.
  • Quality-assure assessment data and reporting to parents.
  • Lead intervention planning with the department’s intervention team to close gaps in learning.

Behaviour & Inclusion

  • Monitor student behaviour trends and support staff in managing consistent, positive behaviour.
  • Ensure inclusive practices that support all learners, including SEND and disadvantaged students.
  • Manage departmental contributions to Open Evenings and school-wide events.

  • A qualified and experienced Maths teacher with a proven track record of strong classroom practice.
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to lead, inspire, and motivate a team.
  • Someone who thrives on collaboration and is committed to continuous improvement.
  • Experience in using data to inform teaching and improve outcomes.
  • A strong communicator with excellent organisational skills and a passion for student success.
