A&R Timetable

The Years 7 to 10 Mid-year Assessments & Reviews (A&R’s) will take place from:
Monday 6th January 2025 to Friday 17th January 2025

This page contains each year groups A&R timetable with subjects being assessed. designated dates, and lesson periods.  Please note there are two different timetables for year 10 students; one for students in the grammar groups and one for students in the core groups. Also please use the child’s timetable to identify the different option choice exams/assessments. Knowing when the examinations are is an essential part of their preparation and organisation and will aid them in developing an efficient revision timetable. We would encourage the use of their student planner to help them organise this period and their teachers and mentors will be helping them with this.

These assessments will test a culmination of knowledge and skills that your child has been taught since the start of this academic year. It is imperative that all students are encouraged to revise and attempt all the questions in the assessments. The performance of all students will be rigorously reviewed to ensure that correct strategies and support are in place for their future learning. Following this review, in all subjects, and particularly in English and Maths, students who are not progressing as expected will be offered additional support to help them. You will receive a report detailing their results and an indication of the progress being made on the week beginning 3rd February 2025.
It is important that students understand the importance of any assessment or examination and the school will expect everyone to abide by a set of rules to ensure the assessments are completed in line with the guidance issued by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) for public exams.  Establishing clear routines and expectations now will enable your child to be fully prepared for formal public examination conditions in the future. Could I please ask you to discuss with your child the following points.

Students must:
  • ensure mobile phones are turned off and stored in their bag (as the school policy)
  • be in silence at the start of the examination and remain silent throughout.
  • not talk to or try to communicate with or disturb other candidates once the assessment/exam has started.
  • not write on their hands or equipment.
  • be properly equipped for examinations (i.e. black pens, pencils, ruler, rubber in a clear pencil case as well as a calculator and geometry set for the Maths calculator papers, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Geography assessments/exams).
  • not have the tins for their geometry set or the lid for their calculator on their desks.
  • listen carefully to the teacher and follow instructions at all times.
In formal public exams, water to drink must be in a clear bottle (max. 500 ml) without the labels. Whilst this is not necessary for assessments in classrooms, you may wish your child to follow this expectation as part of their routine and preparation for future exams.

Any disruption to assessments or examinations may lead to students being removed from the room, their assessment or examination paper being cancelled, and an after-school sanction imposed.

Please see the school website here for general revision tips for you to support your child with their revision in the coming weeks. Students should also check Teams for additional subject-specific guidance and support including specific homework’s related to preparing them for these assessments.

We appreciate that assessments and examinations can be an anxious time for students, but this can be managed with support from school and home which will help them to increase their confidence and enable them to cope with challenges ahead.  We hope this letter provides you with sufficient information to ensure your child is prepared and organised, which is also important in coping with any assessment and examination-type worry.

Please contact your child’s Mentor or House Manager if you have any concerns about your child’s well-being during this time.  If you have any queries about the examination timetable or revision support, please contact the school at office@hernebayhigh.org
