Remembrance at Herne Bay High
11 Nov

Once again, the school marked Armistice Day, which is the commemoration of the signing of the Armistice ending the First World War at 11.00am on 11 November 1918

After listening to an introduction piece featuring the poem 'In Flanders Fields', broadcast to all classrooms by Ms Hobbs, students across the school were invited to stand and observe the two minutes silence at 11 o'clock.

Those students who are members of uniformed groups, gathered at our memorial garden for the traditional wreath laying ceremony. They were joined by Mr Boyes; Mrs Hoare and Miss Claughton, who proudly wore her medals from serving with the Royal Corps of Signals along with other members of staff.

Some students and staff were wearing handmade poppies, crafted by our Crochet Club, who have raised over £100 for the Poppy Appeal with the sales of their poppies.

On Sunday 10th November, our Senior Student Team represented the school at Herne Bay's own Remembrance Day Service. The students attended Christ Church St Andrews before walking with the procession through the town centre to the Memorial Park, where the students laid a wreath on behalf of the school. Sacha, one of the Senior Students, said afterwards, that it is really important that the younger generations continue to remember those who have fought and lost their lives.
