Careers and the Wider World in PSHEE
At our school, careers education and understanding the wider world are integral parts of the PSHEE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) curriculum. We aim to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed decisions about their futures.
Year 7: Exploring Aspirations
In Year 7, students begin to explore their future aspirations by reflecting on their interests, strengths, and dream careers. They are introduced to key employability skills and encouraged to think about how their personal qualities align with different job roles.
We support this exploration through a range of web-based platforms, including:
- Unifrog
- UCAS
- Explore Careers
- National Careers Service
Students also have access to a wealth of resources in our Library Resource Centre, where they can find up-to-date careers information.
Year 8: Building Skills for the Future
Year 8 students focus on developing essential learning and employability skills such as:
- Active listening
- Confidence
- Teamwork
- Leadership
They continue to explore career pathways and reflect on their evolving aspirations.
Year 9: Making Informed Choices
In Year 9, the focus shifts to financial decision-making and preparing for GCSE option choices. Students receive guidance through PSHEE lessons, mentor time, and assemblies.
They are encouraged to use Unifrog to explore career options and plan their next steps. We also promote the use of platforms like:
These tools help students understand the local job market and make informed decisions about their future education and career paths.
