This week is Children's Mental Health Week!
Our CASS Student Safeguarding, Attendance & Wellbeing Team are here to look after the Mental Health and Wellbeing of all our students.

Earlier this week, some of our Year 8 students visited the University of Kent to take part in activities around developing their own accommodation.
As part of the day they had the opportunity to work with current undergraduate students and took a tour of the campus and its facilities.

This term has seen our Girls' PE extracurricular take part in Alternative games. This is a non-competitive element of extracurricular where girls can sign up, turn up and HAVE FUN!
They have completed a range of games from skating, laser tag, trampolining and, climbing, along with Dodgeball at Barton Manor School this week. The girls fully embraced the fun element and engaged and participated within the range of dodgeball games. They were a great group to take, and enjoyed every minute.

Kent County Council are running a consultation on the support they provide to Post 16 students for assistance towards their transport costs to their place of learning for the 2026-27 academic year.
This will particularly affect students currently in Year 10, along with those with a SEND need who may start their course at the age of 19 or older.

Do you need help understanding your child’s needs? Do you want to meet other parents/carers of young people with SEND? Canterbury District STLS are working in close conjunction with the Family Hubs to provide Information, Advice and Support for all SEND children regardless of diagnosis.

Canterbury City Council is currently accepting applications to the Household Support Fund.
This is a scheme funded by the government to help low-income households cover the cost of food, energy bills, and essential items such as school uniform and broadband. Families could be eligible for a £150 cash grant.
To apply for a payment, households must:
live in the Canterbury district and be 16 or over
have a total household income of £40,000 or less
have no more than £500 in savings and not have access to any other money to support their situation.

21 of our fantastic sports leaders helped at our Sports Partnership's Year 5 and 6 Sports Hall Athletics event on Wednesday afternoon.
This saw over 300 local primary school children from 13 different schools compete in a number of track and field events. Herne Bay Junior School took the gold medals, followed closely behind by Swalecliffe Community Primary School in 2nd place and Hampton in 3rd.

Yesterday, our Year 12 A Level Biology students took their first of three trips to the University of Kent laboratories.
They were given the opportunity to purify a genetically engineered antibody fragment that binds to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
A big thank you to the University for facilitating this visit and we look forward to seeing what they do on their next session.

This morning, some of our Year 10 students visited the Bioscience laboratories at the University of Kent. The students were given the chance to conduct light microscopy experiments before visiting the Transmission Electron Microscope facility, the Confocal Microsopy facility and the Tissue Culture facility.
We'd like to that the University for facilitating this fantastic visit for our students.
